Fambee: best if your schedule arrives by email

Fambee connects to Gmail or Outlook with read-only access and adds school events, appointments and deadlines to the family calendar as the emails arrive. It also plans dinners, builds the grocery list, and keeps chores, home maintenance and pets on track, and you can ask it questions in plain language. It is iPhone only for now, and it doesn't do family chat or a wall display.

Cozi: best free shared lists for any phone

Cozi gives the family one calendar and shared shopping and to-do lists on iPhone, Android and the web, and it has a very large user base. As of October 2026 the free plan only lets you add or view events up to 30 days ahead; Gold ($39 a year) removes ads and the limit, and Max ($79 a year) adds AI tools including importing events from your inbox.

FamilyWall: best all-in-one with chat and location

FamilyWall's free plan covers a shared calendar, lists, chores, a recipe box and family messaging. Premium adds meal planning, a budget tracker, location sharing and Magic Import, which reads emails you forward to a family address. It works on iPhone and Android.

Skylight: best wall display

Skylight is a touchscreen calendar for the kitchen wall with a companion app. Reviews list the displays at about $160, $300 and $600 depending on size, and Calendar Plus ($79 a year) adds meal planning, rewards and Magic Import for forwarded emails.

TimeTree: best simple free calendar

TimeTree is a free shared calendar with ads, with chat inside events and memos. You can add events by scanning an image or by voice. It doesn't import from email.

A note on Maple

Maple, which turned family emails into events, says it was acquired and will shut down on December 31, 2026. If you use it, export what you need and pick a replacement before then.

Questions parents ask

What is the best free family organizer app?

For a free shared calendar and lists, Cozi, TimeTree and FamilyWall's free plan are the strongest. Fambee is free to start too, with a monthly allowance, and adds events from your email for you.

Which family organizer can read school emails?

Fambee reads your inbox automatically with read-only access. Cozi Max, FamilyWall Premium and Skylight's Calendar Plus can import events too, and FamilyWall and Skylight ask you to forward each email to a special address.

Do I need a wall display?

No. A wall display is nice for younger kids who don't have phones. Most families get the same calendar from a phone app, without buying hardware.
